LATEST HELI-DAY PRESS RELEASE
- updated 27th August 2003

Latest news

Sadly the event will now only be a helicopter fly-in due to both the Royal Navy and Army Air Corps pulling out at the last minute.
As a result the admission price for the event has been halved to £5 per person, with under 15s free.

However we are still expecting around 50-60 machines to take part, including the UK's only flying example's of a Skeeter and Alouette.

30th July Press release

Sadly, due to operational commitments the Royal Navy and the Army Air Corps will not be able to participate at the Heli-Day.

July 2003 Press release

Kemble Airfield, "The Cotswold Aviation Centre", is again holding the UK's only Airshow solely dedicated to Helicopters. On Sunday 31st August it is hoped that over 70 rotary types will attend the "Heli-Air Day".

The event will feature flying displays by the brand new Royal Navy Merlin Helicopter, a Royal Navy and Army Air Corps Lynx, and a Search and Rescue Demonstration by an RAF Sea King. Historic helicopters will feature in the flying display with a Bell 47 (made famous by the "MASH" and "Whirlybirds" TV series) and a Westland Wasp. There will also be an amazing demonstration of Helicopter aerobatics by the incredible Dennis Kenyon.

There will be an outstanding selection of helicopters in the static display featuring many examples of the Westland Gazelle, Westland Scout, Westland Wasp, Alouette, Griffin, Squirrel plus lots of interesting civilian types to look at. Possible stars of the static park will be a very rare Bristol Sycamore that will be flying in from its base in Switzerland especially for the event and a Westland Whirlwind. The police helicopters form both Wiltshire and Western Counties will also be on hand for you to see.

The Heli-Air Day is set to feature the inaugural meeting of the UK, Bell 47 Association, and it is hoped that around 10 or more surviving examples of the Bell 47 and indeed the Westland Sioux will fly into Kemble and be a part of the show. This will be the largest ever gathering of the type in the UK for a number of years.

Among all the Helicopters will be trade stands, fun fair, children's rides, pleasure flights, refreshments and food available. Plus a courtesy bus for visitors to view the Bristol Aero Collection and see their varied collection of aviation exhibits that include the Bristol type173 that was the forerunner of today's military Chinook heavylift helicopter.

  • Admission is £10 per person with under 15's free
  • Gates open at 10.00am
  • Flying Display starts at 2.00pm
